UFC heavyweight Walt Harris is set to make his return to the UFC in April after taking time out due to the death of his stepdaughter.
Harris was scheduled to fight Alistair Overeem on December 7, but pulled out of the fight after the disappearance of his stepdaughter.
Tragedy
Aniah Blanchard was reported missing on October 23 after last being seen in Auburn, Alabama.
The 19-year-old’s body was found a month later in Macon County.
An autopsy revealed Blanchard died of a gunsuot wound, and Ibrahim Yazeed is charged with capital murder.
Following the confirmed death of his stepdaughter, Harris took to social media with a heart-wrenching tribute.
He wrote on Instagram: “My sweet baby girl… I just wanna thank you for helping me change my life for the better… For teaching me how to be a man and a better father! For being my biggest fan win, lose , or draw! For always knowing what to say to put a smile on my face and lift me up when I was down and wanted to give up. You light up my world I’m so many ways. This pain is unbearable… I know you want me to be strong but it so hard baby it so hard. I’m gonna find away I promise you I will. Right now nothing makes sense and I’m so lost. I just want you back. I hope I made you proud… I’m gonna keep going daddy just needs time. I love you so much. Look after us like you always did. We need you now more than ever. My lil mighty mighty tiger is a angel now. I love you baby girl forever and ever!”
Recovery
The tragic news cast doubt over the future of Harris’ career in the UFC as he moved away from the Octagon to deal with his personal life.
But the 36-year-old is now looking to get back to work as he looks to put the devastating events behind him.
April Return
Coming off the back of two wins, Harris is looking to make his return in April, MMA Junkie reports.
A specific date and opponent for the comeback fight haven’t yet been announced, but it’s great to see the UFC veteran return to the Octagon.
