Mike Tyson believes undefeated world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be a great trainer in the future.
The American boxer is set for a major comeback this year after announcing in November 2019 he will come out of retirement to collaborate with Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White for a grand sporting spectacle.
In August 2017, Mayweather came out of retirement and locked horns with Conor McGregor dubbed as the most lucrative fight in combat sports history.
When the smoke cleared, it was Mayweather who had his hand raised, defeating the UFC’s biggest draw in the tenth round by way of technical knockout. After the win, he announced he was retiring from the sport again.
For ‘Iron Mike,’ Mayweather can also find success in coaching future boxers should he pursue this path on his retirement.
Good Chance
In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, ‘The Baddest Man On The Planet’ said: “Mostly, the guy that’s the great trainer is not the great fighter and that’s why he becomes the great trainer.”
“I give Floyd a good chance because Floyd’s a gym rat, that’s all he does. You see him in the club for one week but he’s in the gym every day for 25 years.”
“Even when he goes out and party, he’s back in the gym the next day. He does it in his sleep, this is what he do.”
In fact, ‘Money’ has offered Deontay Wilder to train under his tutelage in an attempt to help the American reclaim the WBC heavyweight championship, which he lost to Tyson Fury in their rematch last February.
“If I train him! If I train him, I can teach him how to win,” Mayweather said.
Boxing Return
Meanwhile, boxing fans might see ‘Iron Mike’ fight in the ring this year as the 53-year old legend sets his sights on coming out of retirement to compete in charity bouts.
“I want to go to the gym and get in shape to be able to box three or four-round exhibitions for some charities and stuff. Some charity exhibitions, make some money, help some homeless and drug-affected mother-f—– like me,” Tyson told American rapper, T.I.
“I do two hours on cardio, I do the bike and the treadmill for an hour, then I do some light weights, 300, 250 reps.”
“Then I start my day with the boxing thing, I go in there and hit the mitts, 30 minutes, 25 minutes, start getting in better condition. I’m starting to put those combinations together.”
