Max Holloway Seeks Legal Action Over Health Complications

Former UFC champion Max Holloway is looking at a potential lawsuit over health difficulties he suffered ahead of UFC 226, which forced him to drop out of his fight.

Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway was scheduled to face Brian Ortega back in July 2018 but was forced to remove himself from the fight card after displaying ‘concussion-like’ symptoms.

His management team reported at the time that he’d been out of sorts for a while and had to be rushed to hospital for treatment when his health deteriorated further.

Out of Sorts

Over a year later ‘Blessed’ has revealed what he believes caused the illness.

He advised he couldn’t say too much on the matter due to potential legal proceedings, but did shed some light on the ordeal and believes it’s something he ingested that caused the complications.

Speaking to Joe Rogan (via MMA Fighting), Holloway said: “That July fight, when we was getting ready, it was in Vegas. I had to fly to New York to do my media day. So from Hawaii to New York. We did 12 hours of media and then we went to Vegas, I think got to Vegas on Thursday. I just felt out of it,”

“Not really cutting weight, we was dieting and stuff. Even the water thing, I drink diluted water fight week. Even before the fight, we drink diluted water. A couple days past and it wasn’t going away.”

“I could tell exactly what it was. It was something we consumed,”

“Like right now not that much people know, I left my old management. I’m with new management now and my manager now he’s like a behavioral science guy and he’s probably watching this stream squirming the way I’m talking about it but we got stuff going on.”

“I’m looking to work on with lawyers and we plan on suing somebody.”

There’s a bunch of stuff that I really can’t talk about. That’s why he’s squirming back there.”

“I probably shouldn’t be talking about it too much but that’s what it is. It was something I consumed. I don’t even know if I can tell you [what it was].”

Legal Fight

Although Holloway didn’t directly point the finger, it looks like there is a culprit towards whom a legal fight will be directed.

And it seems that compensation will be sought for the  physical trauma the illness caused and the resulting hindrance in his career.

 Bounce Back

Holloway’s recent defeat to Alexander Volkanovski saw him lose the UFC featherweight title.

The 28-year-old will now be looking settle these legal issues as quickly as possible so he can focus on bouncing back and regaining his champion status.
