Kamaru Usman has brutally responded to Conor McGregor, who has hinted about his plans to win the welterweight championship.
‘The Notorious’ from Ireland previously held both the featherweight and lightweight titles, making him one of the few fighters to become a simultaneous two-weight champion.
In the wake of Usman’s technical knockout victory over Colby Covington, McGregor wrote a cryptic tweet, hinting that he wants to capture the 170-pound strap.
“145, 155, 170,” Conor posted.
Usman, who dethroned Tyron Woodley earlier this year, was successful in his first official title-defence, earning a fifth-round stoppage against the controversial American fighter in the main event of UFC 245 last Saturday.
Little Man
When asked about a potential fight with McGregor, Usman said he would be too much for the former two-division champ.
“You saw what Khabib did to him,” he told TMZ Sports.
“Like, oh my god. It wouldn’t even be fair if I fought Conor.”
“Much respect to Conor for what he’s done for this sport and transcended it, but nah, this is not what you want.”
“Sit down, little man! Sit down! Learn to walk before you can run because I would hurt that guy.”
Instead, the defending welterweight champion is eyeing a super fight against the French-Canadian superstar, Georges St-Pierre.
“If I had to choose, of course, I want Georges … I want GSP.”
GSP has been rumored to come out of retirement as he is being linked to a potential clash with lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The MMA great said a return to the cage is possible if the Nevada-based promotion pays him the right price.
MMA Return
McGregor is set for his much-awaited MMA comeback on January 18 2020 and will take on Donald Cerrone in a welterweight clash at UFC 246.
The Notorious last fought in October 2018, where he was submitted by Nurmagomedov in the fourth round of their UFC 229 fight.
UFC president Dana White revealed the Irishman could get another shot at the lightweight title if he wins against ‘Cowboy’ and Khabib defends his belt against Tony Ferguson.
“He’s absolutely not being overlooked, and Justin Gaethje knows what’s going on,” White said.
“We’ve talked behind the scenes. He knows what’s up.”
“And realistically, Conor wanted to come right back and rematch Khabib. But we said that’s not going to work. Tony [Ferguson] deserves the shot.
“So Conor is going to have to fight another fight before that and he’s going to get the shot.”
