Kamaru Usman will show no mercy on Conor McGregor if they share the cage for an intriguing welterweight championship bout.
Usman’s manager, Ali Adbelaziz has offered ‘The Notorious’ a shot at becoming the first fighter to win three UFC titles as number one welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal wants a ‘BMF’ title rematch with Nate Diaz.
McGregor is not yet booked for his next UFC outing, following a 40-second knockout of Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, but has been linked to plenty of big names as his opponent for his return including Khabib Nurmagomedov and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“It looks like #1 contender wants to fight Nate Diaz now. Good for him. Conor McGregor hey you want a title shot ? Come to daddy, Usman will give you one and he promise first two rounds without takedowns only slaps,” Abdelaziz wrote on Twitter.
Stay Quiet
‘The Nigerian Nightmare,’ who is looking to make a summer return, has slammed both Masvidal and McGregor for ‘saying no’ to the title shot, calling the welterweight stars the ‘champions of Twitter.’
“This is what I have to say: Both [McGregor and Masvidal]. Both guys are champions of Twitter, talking s— on Twitter. In the history [of MMA], who has ever said no to a title shot?” Usman said (via ESPN).
“I’m that guy. I’m the boogeyman who these guys are saying no to a title shot against. And they better remain quiet.”
“Jorge Masvidal, you had an opportunity on April 18, May 9, June and now July. You want to fight Nate — a fight that wasn’t even competitive.”
“And Conor, you said you wanted to be the king of the 170-pound division. Now you’re quiet. So you know what? Just remain quiet. I’ve given both of you a shot, and none of you have taken it.”
Going For The Knockout
If the title fight with McGregor happens, Usman said he would not use his wrestling in the first two rounds as he aims to finish the former two-weight champ using his stand up game.
“I will sign a contract with Conor McGregor. We’ll put it in the contract: First or second round, I won’t take you down,” he said.
“Yeah, if I want you down, there’s no ifs, ands or buts about it. But if I want to stand up with you, I will. Am I going to try to knock Conor McGregor out? Absolutely. I’m going to try to knock his head off his F’ing shoulders.”
