Ben Askren’s ‘son’ has a hilarious confrontation with Jorge Masvidal on Thursday’s UFC 246 media day.
The former ONE Championship and Bellator MMA welterweight titlist fought Masvidal in the main card of UFC 239 last July.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Askren suffered the fastest knockout in the UFC history as he was finished by Masvidal just five seconds into the opening round with vicious flying knee.
Yesterday, Chase Hooper, a UFC featherweight fighter and who happens to have curly hair like ‘Funky,’ played a gimmick on Masvidal as he confronted him about the flying knee knockout.
“Why did you do that to my dad?” Hopper asked.
Clueless about the situation, ‘Gamebred’ asked Hooper who his dad was.
Check out Masvidal’s priceless reaction to Hooper in the video below:
Fighter Of The Year
Askren has taken the knockout loss like a champ and even hailed Masvidal as his ‘Fighter of the Year’ for 2019.
“I’d like to pick Israel Adesanya over him, but I think – I feel like that would be disingenuous,” Askren said (per MMA Junkie).
“If I have to look at it from a non-biased perspective, it’s freakin’ Jorge, and if you said that was going to happen a year ago, everyone would have said ‘You’re on drugs,’ or have some type of issue. But unfortunately, I think he deserves it.”
“It doesn’t hurt me. That’s what it is – that’s the truth. That’s the reality of the situation: It doesn’t hurt at all.”
“Now, does it feel good? No, it doesn’t feel good, either. But it’s not … that’s what happened.”
Unfortunately, ‘Funky’ will not be able to avenge the loss as he has decided to retire from MMA due to health reasons.
Bigger Challenge
With a heavy resume, Masvidal is looking for bigger challenges and bigger paychecks in 2020.
He has called out McGregor many times for a super fight and has also expressed his interest to a cross over bout with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
“If you want this fight my brother, I’m right here man. Let’s get it f–king crackin'” he told TMZ Sports.
“I got good things to say about Conor. He’s done a lot in the sport, and he’s made his money already and if he feels he’s not getting the money he deserves to come back, man I’m gonna be the first one to applaud him and be like do your thing my brother.”
