It was a wild weekend for the the world of mixed martial-arts to say the least – the ultimate highlight of which; Dustin Poirier defeating Conor McGregor in their trilogy fight via a doctor’s stoppage at the end of round one.
The UFC 264 card which took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas was stacked from top to bottom, with promise of non-stop action from the opening early prelims to the highly anticipated main event…and Uncle Dana well and truly provided with scenes of blood, broken bones and complete dominance throughout (minus the Wonderboy vs Burns fight which was deflating to say the least).
The main event between McGregor and Poirier was the hypothetical pièce de résistance in a goldmine jam packed with action, and the world was stunned when McGregor suffered a broken tibia as round one came to a close. Regardless, Poirier dominated the round from the opening bell, with vicious elbows from top position, as well as putting his stellar jiu-jitsu to use to evade desperate guillotine attempts from McGregor.
Despite being well and truly beaten both by Poirier and his own body, Mystic Mac couldn’t help but to continue taunting and trash-talking the Diamond as medics attended to his disfigured limb – allegedly threatening to “kill him in his sleep.”
The 200,000+ fans in attendance and millions watching around the world soaked the event in for all it was worth, inclusive of many professional MMA fighters alike – who didn’t shy away from sharing their influential opinions online after the dust had settled.
