Halle Berry revealed she sustained a minor injury while filming some fight scenes with UFC flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko.
The 53- year old Academy Award winner tapped Shevchenko as her trainer for the upcoming movie, Bruised, where she plays the role of a mixed martial artist fighting her own demons, with the flyweight champ cast as her main rival.
On Tuesday, Berry talked about her experience working with the UFC champion as she learned the dangers of sharing the cage with a top pound-for-pound MMA fighter.
“I broke some stuff on this one,” she told Jimmy Fallon on ‘The Tonight Show.
“It’s OK, I always get hurt but I realized that when you go hard, you’re bound to get hurt. When you do your own stunts, you’re bound to get hurt.”
Authentic
Berry commended Shevchenko for her authenticity in doing the stunts, which made the fight scenes more legitimate.
“In this movie, I was fighting the real UFC flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko, and you know what? She had to throw some real kicks and I had to really take them and that really broke some bones, ” she said.
“She’s a beast but I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher, a better scene mate, a better fight partner.”
“She just brought so much reality to it for me. At times, I felt like I was really fighting.”
“Like our referee that was in the movie is a real referee and he says a couple times ‘man I thought I was watching a real fight’ because she brought so much power and authenticity to our fight scenes.
Accident
The 32-year old Kyrgyzstani said the injury happened during their battle on the ground and has praised the Hollywood star for doing a great job as MMA fighter.
“I’m not sure I can say it if she didn’t say it by herself. But I can say for sure [she broke something],” the flyweight queen told ESPN.
“The last date of the filming she was working out and stopping and taking time because of the pain. But she finished all filming and she did great.”
Shevchenko added: “It was kind of an accidental thing, turning to another side or something like that.”
“I kept a lot of control in all my moves. Even when I was pretending that I am hitting hard, I didn’t hit hard, because every time I’m trying to have a lot of control and I did have a lot of control.”
“It was not something from my side, it was just a wrong move.”
