The third instalment to the Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder rivalry is set to happen this summer, Frank Warren has claimed.
In the first fight, the heavyweight rivals fought to a controversial split draw, with Fury dominating the early rounds before Wilder made a late rally, scoring a pair of knockdowns in the closing stage.
This past weekend, the pair tussled in their much-awaited rematch in Las Vegas, with the WBC, Ring, and lineal heavyweight titles on the line.
But this time, the fight was one-sided.
Fury came out with all guns blazing as he dominated the American through seven rounds en route to a technical knockout win.
‘The Gypsy King’ ended Wilder’s five-year reign as the WBC heavyweight king while giving him the first defeat of his boxing career.
Looking to bounce back from this stunning loss, Wilder has expressed his interest for a trilogy bout, saying he will exercise his right to an immediate rematch.
No Doubt
In a recent column written by boxing promoter Frank Warren, he revealed the trilogy fight is set for July but the United Kingdom has been ruled out as the potential venue.
“Deontay has not yet officially invoked the rematch clause but made his intentions very clear and will do so shortly, there’s no doubt about that.”
“If we’re gonna do it, I’d like to do it over here in the UK, but at the moment it’s pencilled in for Vegas in July. Tyson’s got his eye on the new 65-000 capacity Allegiant Stadium.”
As for a potential unification bout with Anthony Joshua, Warren said: “Of course we want to make that fight, but both have contractual commitments and fights that have got to be dealt with. They’ve got to satisfy the Pulev mandatory.”
“We want to get the fight on, the fight will be on a 50/50 basis and it’s as simple as that. No-one’s gonna duck it. Anthony Joshua needs Tyson, he’s in his slipstream now, he needs him.”
Warrior
The 34-year old Wilder has congratulated his rival for his recent win and confirmed that they are going to lock horns for a third time.
“We’re definitely going to exercise it,” the American knockout artist claimed.
“We’re looking forward to it. I’m a warrior and a true champion, and I fight like that every bit of the way.”
“We’re definitely going on with it. That’s for sure. By the summertime.”
“I congratulate Fury on his accomplishment.”
“I’m very excited for him, and I am not bitter toward no one.”
What are your early predictions for the Fury vs Wilder III? Will Fury reassert his mastery over Wilder? Or will the American exact revenge?
