Floyd Mayweather is confident he can help Deontay Wilder on his bid to reclaim the WBC heavyweight championship.
The American suffered the first defeat of his career on his 11th straight title-defence last month, when he was stopped by Tyson Fury in their much-awaited rematch at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Anticipated as a close fight, the British behemoth turned it into a one-sided affair as he dominated Wilder through seven rounds, highlighted with a pair of knockdowns, en route to a technical knockout victory.
Looking to recover from this stunning loss, Wilder has officially exercised his right to an immediate rematch, which is set to happen this summer.
Months away from the trilogy bout, Mayweather, who retired from boxing with an undefeated record, has offered the ‘Bronze Bomber’ to train under his tutelage in an attempt to beat his heavyweight rival.
‘I Can Teach Him’
In a recent Q and A session in Manchester, England, the boxing legend was asked about Wilder’s chances against Fury in the third fight.
“Do you think Wilder will win in a rematch with Fury?”
Mayweather responded by saying, “If I train him! If I train him, I can teach him how to win!”
The undefeated boxer has expressed his support to his fellow American, following the TKO defeat, saying he is ‘still a winner’ in his eyes.
“Win, lose or draw … Deontay is our brother that has accomplished many triumphs and as a community we should all uplift and support him throughout it all,” Mayweather wrote on Instagram.
“No matter what, you’re still a winner in my eyes, King!”
Rising From The Ashes
Meanwhile, in a first appearance since the Las Vegas rematch, Wilder assured his fans he will rise again to reclaim the heavyweight throne.
“Your king is here. And we ain’t going nowhere, for the war has just begun. I will rise again. I am strong. I am a king, you can’t take my pride.”
“I am a warrior. I am a king that will never give up. I’m a king that will fight to the death. And if anyone don’t understand that, don’t understand what it is to go to war, don’t understand what it is to fight, we will rise again.”
“We will regain the title.”
‘I will be back. We will hold our heads up high. Your king is in great spirit. We will rise like a phoenix from the ashes and regain the title.”
“I’ll see you in a few months, for the war has just begun. All my love to all my people.”
