Evander Holyfield has confirmed that talks are now underway for a potential rematch with old rival, Mike Tyson.
The former four-time heavyweight champion announced he is coming out retirement to compete in charity bouts days after ‘Iron Mike’ revealed his comeback plans.
“The moment you’ve all been waiting for…. The Champ is back,” Holyfield wrote on social media.
“I’d like to announce that I will be making a comeback to the ring.”
“I will be fighting in exhibition matches for a great cause. I’m training to promote a charity that’s very close to me.”
“Our #Unite4OurFight campaign aims to provide students the resources they need for emotional development and education.”
The 57-year old legend holds two wins in his rivalry with ‘Iron Mike’ as he defeated him in June 1997 via 11th-round technical knockout before Tyson suffered a disqualification loss in their rematch for biting Holyfield’s ear.
Coming That Way
Following Holyfield’s announcement, he said he is open to fighting Tyson for a third time if the price is right. Now, ‘The Real Deal’ claims both camps are in talks to come up with a solid fight deal.
“His people have been talking to my people and we haven’t yet got a solid deal together but it’s coming that way,” Holyfield revealed.
“If it happens, then that’s no problem. Well, the thing is, he was doing something and I was doing something.
“When I told people about it, they saw me working out and they kind of put two and two together. They must be coming together to do this like this.”
“But the fact of the matter is, I didn’t mind if we do something like this.”
Point Of The Comeback
Continuing, Holyfield cleared that his motivation for his return is not to fight Tyson but to help the kids, who benefit from his charity.
“Well the point of the comeback – somebody just made up the names themselves – I’d been telling people that I wanted to start doing exhibitions.”
“Meaning that with my foundation, the Holyfield Foundation, I wanted to help the kids.”
“I wanted to come back and be able to show the kids that if you take care of your body at a young age, if you don’t get bad habits, you don’t gotta put them down.”
“Then at an old age you ain’t got to be worried about what type of person you’re going to be or if somebody going to have to help you.”
