Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed the timeline for the much-anticipated unification bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
Since Fury dethroned Deontay Wilder as the WBC heavyweight champion, boxing fans are calling for the all-British fight, with the five heavyweight titles on the line.
‘The Gypsy King’ cemented his status as the number one heavyweight boxer right now after a sensational seventh-round technical knockout of Wilder in their rematch this past weekend.
He ended the American’s five-year reign as the WBC heavyweight titlist while dealing him the first loss of his boxing career.
Meanwhile, Joshua reclaimed the WBA, IBF, IBO, and WBO heavyweight titles last December with a unanimous decision triumph over Andy Ruiz Jr.
A heavyweight clash featuring Joshua and Fury is being regarded as the biggest boxing fight ever in the United Kingdom and Hearn has promised it will happen later this year.
Getting It Done
With Wilder set to exercise his right for a trilogy bout, Hearn has urged ‘The Gypsy King’ to hurry up and beat the American again so the unification bout can take place by the end of the year.
“People don’t want the third fight [between Fury and Wilder]. They’ve had 19 rounds now, Wilder’s probably won three of them and in the last fight he got battered,” the boxing promoter told the Sun.
“But I understand the contractual position. He does have a right to a rematch clause.”
“I’d just say ‘Hurry up, please’ and do it quickly. We just hope they get on with it and get it out of the way.”
“Hopefully, Fury can get his out of the way and we can get this done in November or December this year.”
‘It Has To Happen’
In an interview with the Daily Star, the Matchroom Boxing boss confirmed Joshua is interested in the All-British showdown and Hearn will do everything in his power to give boxing fans the ‘biggest fight of all-time in the UK.’
“I’ve already spoken to AJ and he wants to go into this fight next,” he shared.
“We have to make this fight happen. We will never, ever get the chance for two Brits to fight for an undisputed heavyweight world championship.”
“I promise you we will do everything we can to make this fight. It has to happen.”
Fury has previously claimed he will fight AJ next if Wilder refuses to fight him for a third time.
“I had a great and worthy dance partner in Deontay Wilder and I’m sure we’re going to do it again,” he told Behind The Gloves.
“If Deontay don’t want the rematch then let’s go AJ.”
