Donald Cerrone’s camp is not threatened with Conor McGregor.
In a clash between two mixed martial arts favourites, Cerrone will lock horns with ‘The Notorious’ from Ireland at UFC 246 later this month.
Cerrone and Cowboy are among the best strikers in the competition and MMA fans are expecting their upcoming showdown to be an all-out war.
Both fighters are also coming off a loss in their last outing at 155 pounds, with McGregor suffering an emphatic submission at the hands of Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The former two-division champion wants to score a pair of wins in the welterweight class to earn a shot at a rematch with the Russian.
So expect McGregor to be swinging for the fences when he meets ‘Cowboy’ in Las Vegas.
But for Cerrone’s coach, there is nothing much to worry about the Irishman’s game.
Avoiding The Left Hand
In a recent episode of Cerrone’s More Than A Cowboy series on Amazon, MMA coach Jafari Vanier said the UFC veteran would have bigger chances to win if he gases out McGregor and avoid his trademark left hand.
“If I were to look at the two, he’s got a lot more to worry about than we do,” Vanier stated, (transcript from MMA Fghting).
“We’ve got multiple submission victories, head kick knockout victories, we’ve got decisions. He’s just got a left hand. You don’t see Conor submitting anybody. “
“You don’t see the guy going on the ground, very rare. Not saying we’re going to force the fight to the ground but what I’m saying is he’s got a lot more to worry about than we do.
“We just have to worry about a left hand and that first round, him coming out on fire. “
Short Night
Cerrone’s coach said Cowboy has to survive the first round and he can make quick work of the returning Irishman.
“You’ve never really seen “Cowboy” ever gas. After the first round, round and a half, Conor fades,” Vanier continued.
“There’s not a lot of pop on that left hand anymore. Footwork goes down, his hands are heavy.”
“These are things that you can watch and see so these are no secret to what’s going on.”
“For us it’s just a matter of capitalizing on those things.”
“Making sure we’re very aware, eyes open in that first round, stay away from that left hand.”
“We stay away from that left hand, it’s going to be a short night.”
