Deontay Wilder has revealed that he likes the idea of stepping into the Octagon in a potential crossover fight after his clash with Tyson Fury.
Wilder is scheduled to defend his title on February 22 against Tyson Fury.
Wilder and Fury first fought in 2018 in a dramatic points draw.
And they’ll meet for a second time in Las Vegas, with the WBC heavyweight title on the line.
‘I Feel MMA’
But Wilder has said he ‘wouldn’t mind’ stepping into the world of UFC after his title defence.
When asked whether he’d ever consider facing a UFC fighter, the ‘Bronze Bomber’ (via talkSPORT) said: “I only have six years and theoretically speaking anything can happen in that timeframe.”
“I’ve spoke out about that before, of course, for me I’ll fight you in my sport and I’ll come to your sport and do it too.”
“I feel MMA, they allow you to get on top of your opponent and bash his face in with velocity and speed coming downwards.”
“Four-ounce gloves, I already talk about getting people out of the ring, but that would definitely be the sport where I show it man.”
“It’s just different rules, different things, I’m built with a set of skills, I have a lot of intellect and a lot of knowledge of combat, period.”
“So I see all the MMA guys always come to boxing because in boxing you have to stand on your feet, you have to be a motherf***ing man for 36 minutes.”
“But I wouldn’t mind going into his world as well too. One for one. May the best man win.”
Wilder expressed that talk of a crossover is speculative, and believes he’s too dangerous to step into the Octagon.
He continued: “But you know, all this is fantasy talk. I don’t think anything nothing will every come to fruition, I’m just too dangerous of a man in any type of combat sports.”
“I really would end a life because I have the power to, and that’s just the damn truth.”
Mandatory Challenger
Should he beat Fury, the Bronze Bomber may be ordered to defend his title against mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte.
Whyte has called Wilder out on multiple occasions for avoiding a title fight, and recently referred to the Alabama fighter as the ‘World’s Biggest Coward’.
Another rival hot on his heels is Anthony Joshua.
AJ is keen to push through a unification bout that could see the first undisputed world heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis achieved the feat in 1999.
Experimental
Combat sport has seen many experimental match-ups of late, most notably Conor McGregor’s boxing defeat to Floyd Mayweather in 2017.
But should it ever come to fruition, Deontay Wilder performing a ground-and-pound would be something extraordinary.
