Conor McGregor could not hide his excitement for a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. after he revisited their first boxing showdown.
Regarded as the most lucrative fight in combat sports history, the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s biggest star tussled with the undefeated American boxer in 2017, where he suffered a 10th-round technical knockout loss.
Since scoring a 40-second knockout win against Donald Cerrone last January, McGregor has been linked to multiple super fights including the Mayweather boxing rematch.
On Monday, ‘The Notorious’ from Ireland revealed he rewatched his debut fight in the ring and claimed he won the later rounds against the boxing legend.
To this, McGregor said he could not wait to fight ‘Money’ in a second instalment to their rivalry.
“It was a great contest, just watched it back! Early rounds all mine, and even later rounds when legs where gone, I still outlanded him,” he wrote.
“I received my credit from many notable names in the boxing world, which I was thankful for. None more so than from Mike [Tyson]. Excited for part 2.”
A Spectacle
McGregor was pumped following Mike Tyson’s comments about his performance in his first boxing fight, saying he was the real winner for going ten rounds against the ‘best champ in the last 50 years.’
“Think about that. … He went 10 rounds, scored punches on the greatest fighter in the last 100 years. Did he do something? Did he accomplish something?” the former undisputed heavyweight champion said.
He explained: “Imagine a guy never had a boxing match and he’s fighting boxing with me. He goes 10 rounds and he’s fighting me and we’re fighting. Imagine if he did and we’re fighting and I’m doing my thing.”
“That’s a bad motherf—er. First fight, 10 rounds with the champ, the best champ in the last 50 years or something like that. That’s the winner of the fight! That’s the winner”
“This should’ve been a one round, two-round fight. Floyd should’ve took it easy. He had to sweat, he had to fight him. He had to fight somebody who was throwing back.”
Crack The Puzzle
The former UFC two-weight champion responded to Tyson by swearing he will solve the Mayweather riddle and finish him in their inevitable rematch.
“Thank you Mike, and just know that for the inevitable rematch, with the knowledge I now hold of Floyd’s style, plus under the tutelage of my old school boxing coach, I will crack the puzzle, and I will beat Floyd. I promise my life on it. It is great to see you back Iron Mike.”
