Conor McGregor’s Diet Plan For UFC Comeback

Conor McGregor has revealed details of his dietary plans as he prepares for his return to the Octagon for the first time since October 7 2018.

The Notorious hasn’t fought in the UFC since he suffered defeat by submission to Khabib Nurmagomedov in their lightweight title fight in October of last year, but the fighter from Dublin is set to return on January 18 2020 against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 246.

The 31-year-old Irishman has never been shy about sharing his diet and has often opened up about his eating habits in the past.

 Sweet Tooth

“I don’t eat takeaways”, he told Men’s Health.

“I’ll eat good-quality meats, good-quality greens, good-quality carbohydrates like sweet potato and butternut squash, and that is it.”

“I have a sweet tooth – that would be where I’d put on weight out of fighting, if somebody brings in a pack of cakes and coffee.”

Fight Plans

McGregor has competed across three different weight categories (featherweight, lightweight and welterweight) throughout his career and is required to gain 15lbs for his step back up to welterweight next month, so a few cheat meals might not go amiss in his bid to make weight next month.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, the former world champion has also laid out plans for two further fights in 2020, including a bout with the winner of Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz and a long-awaited rematch with Khabib, so his diet will be pivotal in keeping his body at its peak throughout the year.

Speaking to Askmen, he said: “I eat good meat – chicken, salmon, some steak – and a lot of quality greens and some fruits like bananas.

“I eat eggs – an omelette with my Americano for a late breakfast or brunch.”

“Getting enough protein is important when I train, to help build muscle and recover, so I’ll supplement with protein shakes.”

“I drink mostly water or coconut water. It’s important to stay hydrated – first thing I do in the morning is stretch and drink water.”

UFC fans are eagerly anticipating the Irish southpaw’s return following what has been a troublesome period away from the Octagon, and preparation will prove key in ensuring that his return is a victorious one.

Comeback

His manager, Audie Attar, said: “He is very committed to this season, he is very committed to fighting three times this year and getting back into the groove of things and getting back to what he really loves.”
