Conor McGregor has provided a breakdown of his impeccable performance at UFC 246, where he made quick work of Donald Cerrone.
Last January, the former two-division champion announced his return to the Octagon with a 40-second knockout of Cerrone using should strikes, a head kick, and ground-and-pound.
With the win, McGregor became the first fighter in the UFC to score a finish across the featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight classes.
On Monday, the Irish star reminisced the stunning knockout with a technical analysis of his striking clinic against ‘Cowboy’ to keep MMA fans entertained while the stay-at-home order is in effect due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Lately atop my striking, I’ve been striking them where they believe they can’t be struck also. And with shots they don’t understand to be shots. Look at the range of limbs and bone joints I strike with here alone,” he wrote on Instagram.
“The hip. The bone of the clavicle, the infamous collar bone! The knee. The foot. The fist (both) A lovely array. That will be all kids now take down your notes and your homework tonight is… enter a cold bath.”
“As cold as it possibly is, you do not need ice. Get in the water and then dip your head under fully and until you need to come up for air. Repeat this over and over until you can stay under for 2 minutes fully.”
“Then Get out. Look at yourself in the mirror, And give your self two full clatters into the teeth”
“You silly novices, back to bed. Just kidding. Respect to all the students of the game. Always remember that if it moves, you are focused on the wrong thing.Stay ready, and most importantly, stay in school. @mcgregorfast.”
McGregor earned his first MMA win in two years and he was grateful with the opportunity to share the cage with a legend like ‘Cowboy.’
“I’ve shared the octagon with some great UFC fighters, and Donald is up there with the best of them all. I’m very, very proud to share the octagon with him,” the Irish star said in the post-fight press conference.
“Phenomenal records, I can only hope and dream to achieve the records he has.”
“I knew Donald has the most head-kick knockouts in UFC history.
“I was saying to Megan (Olivi) backstage, that’s equivalent to a world title for me. To have a record like that, most head-kick knockouts but at the same time – and I knew he was planning to knock me out with a head kick.”
“Everyone, ‘Oh, what if Donald catches the head kick’ and all this. I knew this was what Donald would have been envisioning and his team.”
