Colby Covington is ready to go to war with Tyron Woodley this weekend as he is willing to step-in as late replacement for Leon Edwards at the UFC on ESPN+ 29.
Woodley and Edwards were scheduled to lock horns in the main event of UFC London at the O2 Arena this Saturday with a potential title shot on the line.
But with the heightening coronavirus fears, the Nevada-based promotion decided to scrap the welterweight main event and relocate the upcoming fight night event to the United States.
The UFC has sent an email to MMA managers on Sunday morning, looking for UFC fighters to fill the void left by Edwards and other mixed martial artist who cannot travel to the US.
Following Edwards’ withdrawal from the card, Covington quickly took to Twitter and called out the former welterweight champion.
“Word on the street is @LeonScott is out. The @ufc and America need a hero. Who wants see America’s Champ put the #MAGA cape on and beat the f*ck out of @twooodley live on @ESPN next week for your entertainment and my own personal pleasure?” ‘Chaos’ wrote.
Number One Choice
Covington is coming off a fifth-round technical knockout loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 245 last December, when he challenged the Nigerian for the welterweight strap.
Prior to this setback, he was undefeated in seven straight fights, with huge wins over the likes of Robbie Lawler, Rafael Dos Anjos, and Demian Maia.
Covington’s recent callout has caught the attention of Woodley and it didn’t took long before the former 170-pound king responded.
“Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, I am fighting Saturday,” Woodley announced on Instagram.
“I appreciate you fans. I’m fighting Saturday. Who I’m fighting? I don’t know. I was willing to go to London, actually I was supposed to be flying out today in four hours to go to London.”
“Colby Covington is my number one choice. My number one choice. If I can fight him, Lord, there is a heaven above.”
Time To Go
Continuing, Woodley said: “This will be my delight. Go on his page and call him out. He’ll probably deactivate his account cuz he a little hoe.”
“Call him out: ‘You talked all that s**t. Tyron Woodley said let’s go.’ You want to fight this weekend? You wanna fight in Oregon, Florida, wherever you wanna fight? Let’s do it. Since you all ‘anybody, everybody, all the time.’ Get on his s**t, get on his line, tell him to fight me and quit being a little bitch.”
”So Colby Covington, wherever the f**k you at: you a bitch, you a hoe, you a clout chaser, you don’t wanna fight for real, you wanna fake like you wanna fight.”
“And now I’m gonna call your ass out. I let you rattle your mouth cuz you knew I wasn’t going to say nothing, I wouldn’t give you attention. But now it’s time to go.”
The 37-year old fighter hasn’t fought since his unanimous decision loss to Usman in March 2019, when failed to defend the welterweight strap.
