Colby Covington Denies Jaw Injury In Kamaru Usman Title Fight

Colby Covington has claimed he did not break his jaw during his welterweight scrap with Kamaru Usman at UFC 245.

The welterweight pair headlined the said fight card two months ago in the UFC’s final pay-per-view show in 2019 at the T-mobile Arena.

Tied in the scorecards after four rounds, the defending champion unleashed brutal strikes to earn the stoppage in the final frame and to retain his welterweight title.

Covington, meanwhile, recorded his first defeat in eight outings while sustaining a broken jaw in the process.

An X-ray was later released, showing the extend of the damage to Covington’s jaw while a medical report from the UFC revealed he suffered a non-displaced midline mandible fracture.

Smiling

UFC president Dana White has praised the welterweight contender for displaying his toughness against Usman.

“To have a broken jaw in almost the second or third round and almost finish the fight is pretty fight,” White told the media in the post-UFC 245 presser.

“So for as big as his mouth is and all the stuff that he talks, the guy can fight. He’s talented and he’s tough.

“He came in here with a game plan tonight.”

But in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on his MMA show, Covington claimed he came out of that welterweight fight unscathed and without any injury.

“No I didn’t break my jaw in that fight. Does my jaw look broken? I’ve been smiling, I’ve been with all my mamacitas,” he said.

“I don’t remember Ariel, ever going on the mic and saying, ‘Hey guys, I got a broken jaw.’”

“How did my corner audio get released in the third round?”

Immediate Rematch

‘Chaos’ insists the stoppage was called too early, calling the title fight ‘fixed’ and ‘corrupt’ and now wants an immediate rematch with ‘The Nigerian Nightmare.’

“I went out there and I beat up ‘Marty Fakenewsman’ for 24 minutes until the ref had to stop the fight on a fake stoppage – a bullsh*t stoppage,” he told MMA Fighting.

“[A stoppage] where I was completely coherent and still in the fight, and he just blatantly stopped the fight, after there was a foul, too.”

“He’s hitting me in the back of the head four times and he blatantly calls the fight, because he knows he doesn’t want it to go to the judges’ scorecards cause I could win.”

“Just look at the facts. Look at the video. That fight was fixed, and that was clear enough that they need to do a rematch.”

“My next fight should be the automatic rematch with ‘Marty Fakenewsman.”

“I’m still America’s champ. I’m still Donald Trump’s favorite fighter. I’m still the people’s champion.”
